Party Out Back!

This house welcomes everyone. The Charming 1924 Bungalow style entry invites, without a hint of the austere. Once inside, the architecture opens up with unexpected luxury and generous entertaining spaces. In 1999, the rear of the house was expanded, creating a dramatic park facing facade; and including an exquisite master suite upstairs and an open concept kitchen and Great room level with the outdoor patio. The result is a home that caters to grown ups and kids alike.

For the kid in all of us: The living room can be set up for cozy movies or screen time with friends. The bedrooms are well proportioned and enjoy privacy from the entertaining spaces when quiet is needed for homework. And the backyard extends into wonderful Jewel Terrace Park, which can be seen from the master bedroom deck when gentle supervision is desired.

Grownups get great space to relax. The master bedroom enjoys subtle separation from the rest of the home and features a beautiful ensuite bath. With a walk-in closet of this size, you have room to keep a red carpet wardrobe. And with sunset views from the private deck, the master bedroom is a great place to decompress. The master floor also offers a separate office, to help remind you that work doesn't belong in the bedroom.

Everyone comes together in the kitchen and Great room. The kitchen is graced with arched windows surrounding double doors that swing wide open to the patio. Guests visit with the chef, but aren't forced to congregate in the cooking center. Dining and seating areas spread the party out, and the connection to the yard encourages meandering. Here the cook can move effortlessly from stove to patio grill. This is an entertainer’s space with acres of countertop for food prep. It has the most kitchen storage we have seen in an Albany home. Numerous cabinets are augmented by more pantry space near the half bath and nearby storage rooms. No need to rent party supplies. Here there is storage for party glassware, platters and more.

Family time is cherished time. There is plenty of space for that too. The master bedroom is big enough for a California king, with room for the whole family to gather at story time. The kitchen island is great for morning conversations as the lunches are packed. The gated vegetable garden is a wonderful place to play in the dirt and learn to grow the food for the family table. And with connection to the wonderful park, it is easy to make the most of evening hours. Say yes to after dinner park play or a couple rounds of H.O.R.S.E. at the basketball hoop. The park is great for fur-babies too. There is a nightly dog meetup in the grassy field.

Jewel's Terrace Park

We can't start talking about the neighborhood without mentioning the hidden jem of a park in the backyard. One of our favorite parks in the area, it is clean and well maintained. Even the mural adorned bathrooms are pretty. The park is family friendly and offers a play structure, half basketball court, grills and picnic areas, grassy area and two tennis courts.

This formerly working-class neighborhood once housed the pipe fitters, welders, and shipbuilders that worked for Henry Kaiser during World War II. Today, Albany is home to a diverse group of professionals who support the local schools with a passion.

Solano Avenue, with its incredible array of restaurants (from "As You Wish" frozen yogurt to great cuisine at Juanita & Maude), independent cinema, and shopping, is proof that there's more to Albany than its stellar school system. And because Albany is small, flat, and sunny, it's a walkable neighborhood, with Solano Avenue as its east-west axis. Bakeries, boutiques, and bistros thrive on Solano. The annual Solano Avenue Stroll, which takes place the second Sunday in September, shows off all 26 blocks -- from the Landmark Theaters Albany Twin theater (which shows an eclectic mix of first-run blockbusters to small, independent features), all the way along the Avenue and into Berkeley-- and is the perfect place to start your exploration of Albany.

On the border of Berkeley, this location also takes advantage of the Northbrae and Westbrae districts. Food shopping becomes a happy foray through the incredible produce array at Monterey Market, fresh catches at Monterey Fish, poultry at Magnani, pastries at Hopkins Street Bakery and fine cheeses at the Country Cheese Market. We recommend getting on the mailing list at Lalime's (fine dining) for their seasonal and whole hog yearly highlights.
